Tell Me Why:
Lyrics by Valerie MIZE

I'm headed out to Brooklyn
Gotta find myself a job
And spend my nights working on a dream
Gotta find a new apartment
Some place I can't afford and hope it isn't too far from the train

Tell me Why...
Did I...
Have to try?
Cause a song called to me, and I'll answer faithfully
What if I don't get this chance again?

A year now has passed since I've seen my father's house
I'm going home to welcome back the spring
I'm gonna walk through the garden
Play a song out on the porch
A week goes by and I'll be gone again.

Tell me Why...
Did I...
Say goodbye?
Cause a song called to me, and I'll answer faithfully

What if I don't get this chance again?
Yes, it all comes to me, and I accept it thankfully
Who knows if it's going to come again?
I've been getting fat here on free drinks and dinners
Come the 5th, my rent is overdue

Tell me Why...
Did I...
Have to try?
Cause a song called to me, and I'll answer faithfully
What if I don't get this chance again?

Time:
Lyrics by Valerie MIZE

You asked for this
I took my time
When I said yes,
You changed your mind
Oh why, why, why?

You wanted more
I didn’t know
When I gave in,
You decided to go
Oh why, why, why

This isn’t what I wanted but
I thought we could do this if only you’d give me some time
Oh, Baby, just give me some time

I thought this could be more than a fling
With all of your words about wanting the real thing
Lies.  Were they lies?
You only want what you couldn’t have
What you could chase, not what you could catch
Guys:  all alike.
Tell me, Baby:  Were you just feeding me lines?
Don’t lead me on

This isn’t what I wanted but I thought we could do this if only you’d give me some time
Oh, Baby, just give me some time

Now you come back wanting some more
I’d give you a chance, but Baby, I’m bored.
Not this time.
Sorry, Baby.  Sorry, Baby, not this time.
You blew your chance, Babe.
This isn’t what you wanted but I need some room; I’ve got nothing to prove\
I thought we could do this; Baby, I’m changing my mind, my mind, my mind
Oh, Baby, I’m changing my mind.
Sorry Baby, I’m changing my mind

"She Said No"
Lyrics by Valerie MIZE

Standing out in the parking lot the last night we ever met
Asking why is he back again?
Why haven’t you kicked him out yet?
I said, “Hey, I’ve got the solution:  Why don’t you come with me?”
She said, “That would only cause confusion, ‘cause here’s where I’ve gotta be.”

I’d never pleaded with another person for anything before
I wanted to pull her in from the tide and bring her back to shore
I saw in her eyes she wanted to go (or maybe that was in mine)
I knew in my heart that when she said no, I was running out of time

I said, “Just get in the car. It’s time to decide who you are.
I can take you away from this mess.
All you gotta do is just say yes.
So come on now, it’s time for us to go.”
But she said no.

I ran out of words and just repeated myself, knowing that she’d made her choice.
I tried to keep the sound of desperation from creeping into my voice.
I gave her a hug, I opened the door, knowing it was time for goodbye
It took everything that I had in me not to look her in the eye.

I thought, “Just get in the car.
It’s time to find out who you are.
You can drive away from this girl, even though she changed your world.”
As I left I thought, “She will never know, ‘cause she said no.”

Just get in that car.
The highway doesn’t care who you are.
You can drive away from this girl, even though she changed your world.
As I left I thought, “Maybe someday she’ll know, even though she said no.”

Just get in that car.
The highway doesn’t care who you are.
You can drive away from this girl, even though she changed your world.
As I left I thought, “She will never know, ‘cause she said no.”

“Promises”
Lyrics by Valerie MIZE

You always said you would do anything for me
You always lied to my face
You always promise me the moon and stars and sea
But you only give me headaches.

Promises, Promises
Just keep falling through my hands
Falling through my hands
Tell me, What do you want from me?
Why don’t you let me be?
Why don’t you give up the chase?
Promises, Promises
Just keep falling through my hands
Won’t you help me understand?

Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, well fuck you.
And your promises, empty promises
Just keep falling through my hands
Falling through my hands

Why don’t you let me go (x6)
And end all these Promises, empty promises
Just keep falling through my hands
Falling through my hands

Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, well fuck you.

“Downtown Train”
Lyrics by Valerie MIZE

Headed out alone again
Late night on a downtown train
You’re out on the Frisco Bay
Silver Moon and shades of gray

I’m rocking back and forth
Singing “What am I here for?”
I wanted so much more
But I had to do it in my own way

I went East and you went West
We decided this was best
We’ll put the whole thing to the test
I’m still in love, I must confess

I’m rocking back and forth
"Singing “What am I here for?”
I wanted so much more
But I had to do it in my own way
(Had to do this my own way)
(Had to do this)

Now I’m navigating troubled waters (x4)

I’m rocking back and forth
Singing “What am I here for?”
I wanted so much more
But I had to do it in my own way
It’ll push and pull you down
But don’t you dare back down
You know you need this now
Just gotta give it another day
Gotta give it another day
One more day
One more day
